Hello, everyone! Halloween has finished once again and we are well on our way to Christmas and the New Year!

ハロウィンも終わり、いよいよクリスマスと新年が近づいてきましたね！

It is good to be updating the blog again and to keep everyone up to date with how things have been going. I had a lot of fun with our Halloween lessons and I hope everyone else felt the same and there weren’t too many nightmares! Everyone was very brave!

ブログを更新し、皆さんに近況をお知らせできるのは良いことです。 私はハロウィーンのレッスンがとても楽しかったので、他のみんなも同じように感じてくれて、悪夢があまりなかったことを願っています。 みんなとっても勇気がありましたよ！

Knock, knock (trick or treat): （ノック、ノック (トリック・オア・トリート）

I think it is important to at least have one activity that lets the students experience the thrill of trick or treating (even if it’s “candy-less”). That’s why this year I decided to make a creepy “Halloween” themed door out of carboard boxes which opened to pictures of ghosts and other scary things. Selected students would come to the front of the class, knock on the door and say “trick or treat!” to reveal what was behind the door (yes, a tricky way to introduce vocabulary!)

The kids seemed to have had a good time and we later used the vocabulary we learned in a song.

園児たちにトリック・オア・トリートのスリルを体験させるアクティビティを少なくとも 1 つ設けることが重要だと思います（たとえそれが「飴ちゃんなし」であっても）。 だからこそ、今年は幽霊やその他の恐ろしいものの絵が開く不気味な「ハロウィーン」をテーマにしたドアを段ボール箱で作ることにしました。 選ばれた園児たちはクラスの前に来てドアをノックし、「トリック・オア・トリート！」と言いました。 ドアの向こうに何があるのかを明らかにする（そうです、語彙を導入するのに難しい方法です！）

子どもたちはとても楽しかったようで、後で習った語彙を歌の中で使いました。

 

Halloween snap:

A quick matching game using a deck of jack o lantern cards. The deck included multiple different expression (happy, sad, angry etc.) The cards are shuffled and placed on top of one another until a pair is made. Once a pair is made, that matching set must be slapped, giving all of the previous cards to that team. Some of the reaction times from the students was amazing! It goes to show my reactions aren’t getting any faster with age.

ジャック・オ・ランタンのカードを使ったクイックマッチングゲーム。 デッキには複数の異なる表現 (幸せ、悲しみ、怒りなど) が含まれていました。カードはシャッフルされ、ペアが作られるまで互いの上に置かれます。 ペアが作られたら、その一致するセットを叩き、前のカードをすべてそのチームに与える必要があります。 園児たちの反応は驚くべきものでした。 それは私の反応が年齢とともに速くなっていないことを示しています。

 

Marco polo: （マルコポロ）

A classic hide and seek based game! I wore my full “werewolf mask” covered my eyes. I would say “marco” and the students would reply with “polo”. I would have to seek everyone out only using my ears. A surprisingly tense game that I loved playing as a kid too! If we do this game again, we can also start replacing the words related to the current topic. Great fun all around! We just need to make sure no one is running next time to avoid any accidents!

古典的なかくれんぼベースのゲーム! 私は目を覆う完全な「狼男マスク」をかぶっていました。 私が「マルコ」と言うと、園児たちは「ポロ」と答えます。 耳だけを使ってみんなを探し出さなければなりません。 驚くほど緊張感のあるゲームで、私も子供の頃にプレイするのが大好きでした。 このゲームをもう一度やれば、現在のトピックに関連する単語を置き換えることもできます。 とても楽しいです！ 事故を避けるために、次回は誰も走っていないことを確認する必要があります。

 

If I were a ghost (song):（僕がもしおばけだったら）

An extra mention for this song because it was a lot of fun! It also helped us learn the sounds and names of different monsters. For example, a ghost says: “ooOOoooooh!” Or a Robot says: “beep bop!”. I found a word a lot of the kids didn’t know was pirate. So from here on I hope the kids will remember that word!

この曲はとても楽しかったので追加で話します。 また、さまざまなモンスターの鳴き声や名前を学ぶのにも役立ちました。 たとえば、幽霊は「おおおおおおお！」と言います。 あるいは、ロボットが「ビープ バップ!」と言います。 多くの子供たちが知らない単語が隠れていることに気づきました。 だからこれからも子供たちにその言葉を覚えてもらいたいと思います！

Overall, I think our Halloween lessons were a great success and a lot of fun. Although I am sad “spooky season” has finished, I am looking forward to Christmas and getting presents (hopefully)! I hope everyone stays well and as always; I am looking forward to our next class!
